The use of "1337" or internet lazyness in common speech is sad. Language is a wonderful, evolving, and rich subject. If, however, the language starts to simplify itself, it loses its beauty.

i have to laugh and agree with LaRoza's first sentence. i thought this was just some "nerd word of the year" or "online word of the year". pretty pathetic and sad now that i read the article and saw who held the contest.

This cyber slang is getting out of hand. Years of playing Quake allowed me to see the evolution from "Omg nice shot dude" to "omfg wtf rofl pwn3d lawl." You just can't help but visualize the 90lb white kid with headphones and Cheetos-greased fingertips never ever saying anything like that to your face, lol. Er, lawl.

Word of the Year 2007? WTF?! In the 1980s I used to read a comicbook called THE FABULOUS FURRY FREAK BROTHERS, about a bunch of pot-smoking hippies, and they were forever saying "woot!" (generally while high).

"w00t" is a very old, very distinguished word. :lolflag:
