A friend of mine would like to switch from Windows to Linux, and I've suggested he take Ubuntu. BUT, there is a problem: He usually layouts (magazines, folders and similar things) in Adobe Indesign.

This program is not available for Linux ... but does anybody know if there is a free (libre) clone/suitable replacement running in Linux?

My friend is not very tech-savvy, so it would have to be quite similar to Indesign for him to use it ...

I don't know if this is the right forum, but anyway: Now I asked... :-)

TIA

He could give scribus a try.
From what I read it is by far the most mature layout program for linux.

I was just about to suggest Scribus, too.
In general, though, you may find this a useful link (http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-lin-soft-en/table.shtml) to answer questions about what Linux programs to use.
