I have an Acer laptop with ATI hardware. I have Compiz working, sound, wireless, and everything else. And it took a little RTFM, and a few questionable, questions. But I found people here more than happy to help. I'm not saying it was easy, but well worth it. I think Vista is dying of loniless my other partision.

Glad to hear it!

I found my ATI card to be nout but trouble! First it wouldn't show any screen, then it showed everything in the wrong resolution, then would not get into the right one - even through editing the xorg, then compiz would not enable - despite a ton of RAM and all!

Anyway, got it working too! And now it looks great!

Now I want some decent drivers from ATI!
