Pidgin doesn't have enough customization on the buddy list for me. Using Adium for OSX, I could get a semitransparent buddy list that automatically resized vertically based on how many people are signed on, and was only 50 or so pixels wide to fit in the dead space made by the dock. Is there an AIM client for linux that can offer me those kinds of options? Transparency really doesn't matter, I mostly just want a tiny buddy list.

Maybe Kopete has this feature

apt-get install kopete

I do use Kopete sometimes, but I haven't noticed whether it does this.

Just go to BUDDIES > SHOW > uncheck the Buddy Details, that would make the Buddy List much smaller.
