Well it looks like tomorrow I will be getting 3 more servers, 2 compaq proliant 1600 and 1 dl380 (the dl380 has no drives/cages) I could bring them to a meeting if anyone is interested or knows of good home for them.
I will update this thread when I know more about them (PII-PIII, drives, cpu's ect)
proliant 1600 tower style

dl380 pIII-1.0ghz 256-L2 133 buss 1.0gb memory no drives/trays. (I might keep this one and substitute my ml350 dual core)
the 1600's I haven't got to boot yet, I have been told one works, 1 flakey after os is installed, 8- 18.2gb and 2- 9.1 drives between the both of them.
these 3 total 7 servers I have received so far, more to come i'm sure.
up for grabs, means no charge/free to a good home...

What do you expect the future servers to look like? Same sort of models?

Just south of you, Ubuntu Ohio is looking for a server to use during install fests and Ohio Ubucon '08. If you have a spare one, we'd be more than happy to make sure it gets a good home :)

I am going on e-bay to get some drive cages for the dl380 (rack mount). so the ml350 (rack mount) may be up for grabs, funny thing the ml350 has less than 10 hours use since 1999 !
***edit*** the dl380 may have a slight cost envolved.

I'm not sure what you mean by" at the tug" but It would be used in my home for ftp and media sharing. I would use it if thats what you mean... either way they're your's and you can do what you want with them.

Less than 10 hours in 8 years? Seriously underused and needs more experimentation done on it :lolflag:

But aboslutely, if you'd like to donate any of them to Ubuntu Ohio just let me or anyone on the team know, we'll make sure we figure out a way to transport them and put them to good use.

Yep, fired up, configured then shut down. I was the one that had to give it the burn in test :)

latest update,

proliant 1600, PII dual 400mhz 32mb and possible more from spare memory in 2nd 1600, some spare parts, number/size of drives to be determined when I mix and match drives/machines (max allowed 91.8? gb in the 1600's)

ml350 probably is spoken for at this time.

This sounds odd and completely off topic, but I just read your location, rustybronco, and I'm only like 20 miles west of you.

Woohoo for southeastern michigan! I'll be definitely sure to eye any hardware you want to get rid of a little more closely in the future!

That ml350 sure was a gem.

***forgot to say, keeping the dl380 w/ hot swap drives YEH! ***

You are getting PIIIs right?

rustybronco
December 17th, 2007, 06:39 PM
So far most have been pIII's, except for the proliant 1600's that were pII's.

NullHead

I will come by and pick up a P3 from you. If it's not a problem you could PM me an address I could come to.

rustybronco
December 18th, 2007, 02:31 AM
No PIII's at this time... I will pm you when I do get one and have it up and running.
not to worry.

Out of curiosity, where do these things come from?

If you could get no longer wanted desktops from them, it would be cool. I know the LoCo has a recycling project listed on the Wiki.

I have a cousin that is an I.T. professional, working for a company that sub-contracts to a big three auto manufacturer, they are off lease.
Yes they are legit, I don't know if I can name names, so they have to stay un-named
No desktops, but I have gotten 5-6 laptops so far :)

Meh I'll take a PII if thats ok. I'm thinking of using it for running a teamspeak and halo CE servers, but I'm not sure yet.

EDIT: I would still prefer a pIII better but either will suffice.

Has anybody claimed this one yet?No not yet, but the drive array controller is flaky so this weekend I will susbstitute another one that I have or just say screw it and get a smart array controller off e-bay to save my self a lot of greef (and I has been fun with this one starting with no boot because of a bad memory stick) 393K memory, dual 400mhz pII's now.

When are you going to show up for the ML350?

I was planning on coming up in April for Penguicon but if you need me to come up sooner I can see what I can do. Also whichever one Nullhead doesn't' want if I could have the other if that is ok with you.

April is fine with me.
I don't know if anyone would want to run the 6000 at home with dual 750 watt power supplys, but for sheer mass one has to admit it looks impressive and you could make a nice coffee table! http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10542_div/Proliant_6000.jpg

the 1600 is ok but old and has wide ultra's not 2's or 3's.
