I saw this in Full Circle Magazine Issue 7. Does anyone know what it is?

gOS is the topic of many threads.

It is used (primarily) in the $200 computer sold at Walmart.

I tried it, it is very nice and easy to use.

(It used Google apps, mostly)

I believe it's installed on the PC's Wal-Mart sell, the g = green, they're promoting the PC's as being green eco-friendly low energy consumption jobs.

Would you recommend it as a test OS?

it is a linux distribution based on ubuntu, with the enlightenment window manager and a set of applications based on google offerings installed as defaults.see this link http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=gos for a few reviews

Not as a replacement for Ubuntu, but as a second "mess-around" OS.

I would recommend E17 as a mess around extra instead of gOS (as gOS uses an older E17 snapshot which does have some bugs). If you install Ubuntu-minimal and then install e17, and finally the apps you want, then you will have a very nice "mess around" OS.

The live cd was nice (in a thread around here I posted while using it).

I wouldn't install it, I would, if I wanted it, install e17 on Ubuntu.

And I agree, e17 from CVS is a lot better than gOS.

Use the debian package from this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=546746), it will install an up-to-date e17 from cvs.

Thanks for the Gebuntu link p_quarles. I think I'll start out with this as a secondary OS.

I was thinking of trying it on a 1.1 athlon with 256mb of ram.
I figured since that is pretty close to the Wal-mart pc it should run ok.

Xubuntu? Sam Linux? Zenwalk?

xubuntu was my original thought but after looking at the specs of the $200 pc I figured gos would work well.

Walmart says the computer parts were made in USA/Imported. I guess that's Wal-mart for you, trying to stay out of legal trouble.

This is the best way to use e17...The e17 CVS Deb by Rui Pais and then install his OzOs-Desktop Deb.

OzOs is simply the easiest and most elegant e17 OS based on Ubuntu.
