Since the new year, 2008, is almost here, we should have an "official" New Year's Resolution Thread.

Here is mine:

Huh? That sounds like New Year's Resolution from 1998... I'm planning on moving up from 1600x1200.

I'm still stuck at a 19" 1280 x 1024 LCD :(
At least it has decent brightness compared to the LCD's at skool, and that old CRT i used to have hahaha.

That said:
I can't believe people still use CRT monitors. It only makes designing things like themes, and web layouts that much harder to get right for "all" monitors. Anything medium in brightness looks horribly dark on a CRT.

New Year's resolutions are rarely followed through. if you can't motivate yourself to do these things at any given time of the year, forget about it.

what? you guys have THOSE kinds of resolutions? I still have 1024x768 and a 17' CRT, maybe I should get with the times

December 3rd, 2007, 04:19 PM
you see, i got my 1680x1050 before new years. yes.

I have 1280x1024 on a 17' monitor, It's not supposed to be set any higher than 1024x768 but it works fine like this on both Windows and Linux (but if I use an open source graphics card driver on Linux the left half of screen gets cut off at this high a resolution.

Im having some problems... It wont go above 1280*1024... go above that and it freezes after the login screen. My new monitor says its 1680*1050 (although I put it on that in windows, and I find the text too small fo my liking, so its on 1440*900) Im getting a new graphics card (geforce 8400, currently on a geforce 6100) soon, so Im not bothering to meddle just yet.

Very punny.

...I'll go get my stuff.

December 27th, 2007, 12:27 AM
well I just found out this monitor can go 1152x864 if I drop my refresh rate 10HZ to 75HZ. hmm...maybe I'll keep it at this resolution

Seeing how this thread was brought back up, if you break you resolution try:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

mine is to avoid KDE vs Gnome threads, and stop getting infractions

December 27th, 2007, 03:05 AM
As I posted elsewhere, mine is to ditch Windows completely.

December 27th, 2007, 03:06 AM
on windows its 1400x1050 and on windows its 1400x900

on both it has random changes between a tv at 1024x768 and a 17" crt 1280x1024

but honestly, i want to completely get rid of windows from my life ((i say this 3 minutes after rebooting into windows))

December 27th, 2007, 03:44 AM

December 27th, 2007, 10:33 AM

December 27th, 2007, 10:35 AM
Maybe go widescreen. I'm still at 1280X1024

December 27th, 2007, 01:49 PM
1280x800 for the Laptop screen and 1280x1024 19" external
The same as last year.

I hope to contribute to making this the "Year of the Linux Desktop with 5% share" then we may get some games.
