At the command line, type in:

sudo aptitude install youtube-dl

Then to download a video, just type in:

youtube-dl http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=yRpY2zOn2hU&feature=dir

I'm not sure if this would work in everyone's computer

(1) Try to watch a video through Youtube or any site that offers video.
(2) Make sure that the video is fully cached (that means you can watch it from start to finish - no more buffering). Do NOT close the window or tab.
(2) Use nautilus to go to /tmp
(3) You can see the cached video there. Copy it and paste it to your desktop.

No need for an extension, or any other application. This is the only way for downloading videos from sites that are not included in extensions.

yeah, I myself usually go to /tmp and move the Flash*** files there to my home directory and rename it from there. There's really no sense in allowing another app eat up system resources - especially those that will re-download the flash videos - when I can do it manually. Besides, it's faster. The only drawback? I don't know which video is which... so I usually open them in VLC before renaming.

Many sites show FLV videos in their websites without providing a download link, such as www.technologyreview.com. Mostly news sites. Firefox extensions like Videodownloader will not be able to generate a download link because they do not support such sites. So for these situations the /tmp method is the only way for one to download videos.

I agree with the guys who said to just go to /tmp and copy the Flash video file. That's what I do too. :)

They are right /tmp is your friend just copy and paste the video to the location you want, just make sure that the video you want to copy is fully cached.
