Look for the part about companies who support open source saying they will "take a bullet" for their customers. that makes me excited to know someone will protect us from microsoft.

this is sugarcoated FUD. "We can't use Linux in case we get sued!"

Those articles makes me feel sad...

All that "legal battles" hassle is a lot of trouble and a lot of resources wasted. That cash would have been better spent on development.

Shouldn't the law be all about right and wrong, about justice, shouldn't everyone be equal in front of the law... The fact that big corporations hoard up huge warchests and armies of lawyers proves that the law is not about justice but rather about who has the most cash. If the law was about justice then the one who's right would win and not the one with the most scary army of lawyers. If everyone was equal in front of the law then one ordinary citizien would have the same chance of winning a case as a huge corporation would have.

Well, here we also see what most people here already know. That all invention builds on previous inventions. And treating inventions as property leads to an endless battle to stop people from inventing the next step after someone elses invention. Human greed vs human creativity, wonder which is the stronger trait...

Thats just plain stupid... Those biased people at CNET (which includes ZDNET) get annoying.

You have as much chance of getting sued for using linux as microsoft making windows open source.

we'll i'm not saying i believed we would get sued or anything. i was more concerned about how sad it is that people want to pressure open source things.

Look at this excerpt from another article:

Backlash
Microsoft lashed out against the Commonwealth of Massachusetts last week for its proposed plan to support only OpenDocument and PDF file formats for use by state employees in the future.

They lashed out against the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? Is a software company getting a little to big and strong if they attack one of the 50 States of America?

I see nothing wrong with Microsoft "attacking" the state of Taxachusetts, or any other state. Governments need to be attacked by the private sector whenever possible to remind them that they exist only because the people (including those who own stock in corporations) allow them to. Government is only a necessary evil at best, and an utterly intolerable one at worst.

Microsoft's nasty response to Massachusetts' announcement is reason enough to switch Office software. That state is their customer, and if MS wants to keep them, they should treat them with more respect rather than just assume that everyone should want to use their software.
