Which ones do real transparency? I just think it looks cool for those ready to say how useless transparency is.

Primarily gnome-terminal, but when sshing into the server I sometimes use xterm (uxterm to be exact) because it's nicer to use Midnight Commander with that than gnome-terminal (F10 works for instance).

Transparency isn't the only factor. Terminals have different configuration dialogues and customization options. Some have tabs, some allow you to configure how it works with cutting and pasting, and they all have different font options. Things like this can defninitely affect the usability of a terminal.

I use Konsole, btw.

xterm uses fewer resources. Also, I find it works better with alltray.

Konsole, mainly because it's the default in KDE.

Sakura (http://pleyades.net/david/sakura.php), because it looks better in GTK2.

rxvt-unicode (http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/x11/rxvt-unicode) when I want complete flexibility (http://kmandla.wordpress.com/2007/11/27/toward-a-better-c64-terminal/)!

I bounce between xterm & eterm personally. Eterm is the one I typically use more often though. I'm not big on eye candy, but having a transparent terminal is kool... :)

Mateo

i'm not sure xterm has transparency. It's meant to be a bare-minimum terminal emulator.

eterm is pretty similar to xterm and apparently does have transparency. perhaps that's what you need.

Gnome-terminal is a good general purpose terminal. That's what i use it for. When I have a few quick commands to run. But it's also a bit bloated (6.7 megabytes of memory use for me), so when I have a program continually running, I tend to use xterm instead because it's memory footprint is in the kilobytes (and not even the high kilobytes). Just my preference I guess.

Its so awesome to just push f12 and have a terminal pop down for me to use.. Its perfect for quick stuff, or when you are multitasking between 50 things and you constantly need a terminal.

I use Konsole when im doing a dedicated list of stuff with the terminal. The fact that it will remind you when its active or inactive is an awesome feature when doing large apt stuff or compiling a program.
