Which is the most famous proprietory Linux OS?

The question is not whether a proprietory Linux distro is better than the rest but just wish to increase my knowledge by knowing which is/are the most famous and good proprietory Linux distributions? Please let me know. Thanks:)

Of the commercial distributions, I would say that Red Hat is the most well-known, largely because it was one of the first. Note that even Red Hat has a community-based version called Fedora Core which is downloadable.

But there really isn't a propietary distro of linux, since Red Hat doesn't own the software. The word is commercial ;-)

when did fedora come out? When i had red hat 7 i got it in a book at the library? was that illegal to burn a copy back then?

Redhat by far, though as many stated it was never quite proprietary.
Linspire probably comes in second thanks to it being on some computers in normal stores here and there.
Mandriva can technically be considered third here due to its buyout of connectiva and some other commercial distros

is quite famous as well

RHEL is not proprietary, it's commercial. You can grab the sources and build the entire distro if you wish. That's CentOS.

Proprietary is a word meaning "non-free" or "non-open source" in this context. A Linux distribution cannot be legally built in a proprietary manner because the kernel is released under the GPL and thus requires derivative work to be released under the same license.

Therefore, no linux distributions are proprietary.

Red Hat and Novell's products are probably the most famous non-free Linux products. All Linux is open-source, however, so none is proprietary.
