Brand new to Ubuntu - in fact brand new to Linux. I am an assimilated Microsoft user but that would be on the business side - Home wise, with the advent of Vista and looking at the cost of new hardware/software I am now an Ubuntu believer - LOL
Be gentle - I am brand new to this but really like and am very excited about what I've seen so far - which is, I am sure, the tip of the Linux (Ubuntu) Iceberg.
I'm most interested in learning more about how I can run some specific Windows programs on my Ubunto desktop - namely Microsoft Money, Turbo Tax, and how do I get my Windows Mobile Phone to sync with Evolution?
Looking forward to the adventure...

We use jGnash - http://jgnash.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page - in place of Quicken.

Welcome!

Thanks Mike;
Is there a listing anywhere in the Linux world that helps new folks like me to search for a software application by type? A lot of these applications have "funny names" such that when you look at the name you can't easily figure out what the application is all about...

I know this post was a really long time ago but I just found the wisconsin section :)

Here's a pretty solid list of apps....

Hi! I'm a Wisconsin guy, too (from Hillsboro).

Another site, with a much more extensive listing of Linux apps is www.osalt.com (http://www.osalt.com). They've got a huge searchable database of commercial software, with their open-source counterparts, and vice-versa. All you have to do is type in the name of your Windows program in the search bar, and then choose from the alternatives listed below it!
