I have noticed this. Every OS requires setup, but I wonder if, sometimes, we oversell the ease of installing Ubuntu just a bit.

Ubuntu is a piece of cake to install and configure as long as you have the right hardware.

Ubuntu worked right away on my computer, it didn’t take me any time at all to figure out how to get my sound working and set up XGL for my ATI video card.

My dad doesn’t have any problems with Ubuntu, all he wants to do is manage photos, anyway.

You can run any Windows programs you really need in VirtualBox, anyway.

Etc. What are your qualified selling points for Ubuntu?

Well, I guess you would have to try every application to find out. if it would run in VirtualBox

I would recommend Picasa for photo management.

Of course they're qualified. How else could it possibly be?

ALL OUR UBUNTU INSTALLATION AND USAGE EXPERIENCES ARE EXACTLY THE SAME. WE WILL ADD YOUR BIOLOGICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL DISTINCTIVENESS TO OUR OWN. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

I guess I thought the clever Ubuntu users would be able to figure out the game from the examples. We often use superlatives like "Ubuntu just works" followed immediately by a qualification that completely undermines the beginning of the sentence. I meant to highlight the hyperbole in use by some, and suggest by illustration that maybe we should sell the OS we have, not the OS we wish we had.

We qualify everything -maybe except for some hardware like soundcards and wifis and what not. (I think this is what 50words is looking for)

how about the old "Oh! Ubuntu works great for me, and installation was flawless! Apart from that little incident where my X server broke down, everything else has been wonderful!"
