View Full Version : Who is successfully using non-European language with SCIM in Gutsy?

The only thing I'm unhappy about Gutsy is that in Feisty I could use the Japanese input mode via SCIM with no problem (so long as I didn't use Thunderbird2). But now in Gutsy, the keyboard locks up randomly for many of the apps I use. Some discussion is here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=586685) and the bug against SCIM is here (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1824188&group_id=108454&atid=650539).

Is anybody successfully using non-European language in Gutsy? If so, I'd like to know how! If not (which is what I'm guessing), the poll result may help some Hardy developers to decide to work on SCIM as a priority :)

Thanks for voting!

Thanks again.
I know how to use SCIM functionally. It's just that the keyboard freezes sometimes when I have it running in the background. This happens even if it is in the regular English mode. If I completely turn off SCIM, this does not happen. This was a well known problem for the Thunderbird2 package in Feisty. But now this is happening with practically every program in Gutsy.

did you completely remove scim and all its relevent components then reinstall it all again?

did you upgrade from feisty or clean install?

I did a fresh install of Gutsy. It was "fresh" except for the home partition. I'm trying to see if I get the same problem using XFCE. I never removed SCIM, just disabled it. I managed to figure out how I can get it back.

yes. The problem happens in xubuntu as well :( (I guess I expected that)
I have to keep using a few different apps at the same time for a while (~30 min) before this happens. I don't think it's b/c of the lack of memory, etc
I have P4 2.8GHz CPU and 1GB RAM.

I can use russian and japanese.

Keyboard locks randomly... Reloading SCIM helps, but this gets annoying. I hope this bug (and this is bug, right?) will be fixed soon.
