View Full Version : So, I guess I'll try programming

I've tried before (although not too awful hard), I'm going to try again. Here's my idea, if you have any thoughts/advice for me in general, thanks alot:
I'm going to try to make some kind of script for mplayer. Instead of having to cd to the directory your music is in, your enter it once, and tell the program if you want to add or remove it from your selection. Then it will save your preferences to a file, and next time you just say whether you want to play a random track from your playlist-thing or a random file elsewhere.

Maybe later I'll try to get a GUI or something, but for now, it's running in CLI.
BTW it's a bash script, because I wasn't sure if it was possible to run commands like "ls" or "mplayer" (since it's playing the music...).

Why don't you use Amarok? It's an amazing music player.

sudo apt-get install amarok

or are you doing this for a learning experience?

For learning to program, see my wiki (in my sig). I recommend Python, so you'd want to check out the other link as well.
