Seems kind of young. I can't image what a 9 year old would do with one of those. I could understand a cell phone for contacting parents, but all that other stuff is pretty worthless. I'd just get her a regular cell phone. Even cheap phones can do a lot these days. I've seen sub $50 phones with built in web browsers.

I wouldn't get her a cell phone... those just rack up minutes and can cause big conflicts. I think it's great that she wants a palm.

The Z22 is actually really great, but it's $99. The model that they just closed, you can probably still get in stores. Before they changed the naming to Z##, they were called Zires, and they're probably the nicest you should buy for an 8 year old. Your kid would flip if you got her a color screen in it.

Also, get a school homework program for her. I used (before I got my iPhone, and I miss this program like CRAZY) Due Yesterday. There are "better" programs you pay money for and you have it also sync up on the web and stuff, but Due Yesterday is WAY more than she'll need (it'll calculate GPA and more than she needs).

Also maybe some games, for when she gets bored in the doctor's office. But obviously make rules about playing them in school. :)

Be with her when she looks for Palm programs, okay? A lot of free software sites also have free software that's porn. Which really amazes me 'cause why don't you just look at porn on the computer you're obviously on... anyway. Yeah, don't teach her how to sync it, don't teach her how to install programs so that she must come to you. Make that a big rule. I would even put "palm" on a child block list because she's going to search for it, and it'll inadvertantly bring up porn, poor thing, even when there's legit, great programs linking to it.

I loved my palm and I'm debating between breaking my contract with my iPhone to go back to it. I am in a youth service organization, and I still bring my palm, loaded with games, and just chunk it and a gameboy to the pile of girls and let them have at it. They love the Palm more, I have no clue why.
