I've tried Wine with various versions of Ubuntu with mixed success. I have two programs written for Windows which worked with v7.04. I upgraded to v7.10 and could not get Wine working at all. I reverted to v7.04 and installed Wine. the two programs worked again. I could not get any others working, then I though maybe I could install them from the CD by running the setup.exe file with Wine. The results were mixed.

MS Digital Image Suite v10 would not install, it kept wanting to install another file first but failed.

Olympus Digital Wave Player did install OK but failed to detect the voice recorder so was not able to transfer files. Probably unable to find the USB port

Serif Photo Plus v6 makes an attempt to install then fails.

Total Cad 2D-3D installed OK.

The result is that I shall have to keep a windows laptop to run these programs and to use printers and scanners which I can't get to work under Ubuntu.

The future is virtual. Install VMware Server (free) then install WinXP inside of that. This way you can run Windows inside a window.

Cheers,
