after reading an article in USA Today about google going into the phone industry, i was fascinated by it so i did some looking around and i found a few interesting links:

http://code.google.com/android/
http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/12/googles-android-os-early-look-sdk-now-available/

and i am sure there are more :guitar: ..
but my question, do you think this is a huge step forward for linux and the open source community?? in my opinion, i think it is.. if a business giant is willing to take on such a project, and make an everyday technological item such as the phone an open source project, then more developers will begin to see the significance of open source. and even make other companies see that you can make a profit from a good product that just happens to be open source (side note: i think paying for hardware is understandable, but paying for software my be the stupidest thing in the world..). my opinion right now is still a bit limited since the phone is not expect to be released until the spring. but i wanted to know what others will think of this..

Openmoko (http://www.openmoko.com/) is a true community-driven mobile operating system. And they have hardware. Although that Android stuff looks pretty good...
