Turn up the sound a little and you should be able to hear the hard drive making some weird sound...

What does that sound supposed to mean?

I'm thinking the HD failed and so does my other 2 friends.

Time to get a new one and copy your files across before it totally fails.

Hitachi and Samsung are the two brands I would recommend.

Mine made that sound when i had damaged sectors on my drive. It's on it's way out, the clicking is the heads trying to read the platter where the damaged sectors are.

Get your data off there and get a new one.

back up what you can and look for a new hard drive. my old hard drive started making a loud clicking news similar to that but not as often. soo after that it failed. luckily i saved all of my important files to a new drive and had no problem other than a broken drive. good luck!

segate is good

Five year warranty with Seagate, but tend to be noisy in use unlike Samsung or Hitachi.

Yeah, a 10+ year old seagate failing. Hard disks just don't last that long. After 5 or 6 years I would replace a drive anyway, just because I wouldn't trust it with any data.

(listens) Yep that's one soon to be dead hard drive. If your quick on it you should be able to move everything off it before it goes out. Good luck.
