If you don't have it, install InkScape. Then grab the official SVG version of both and resize to your needs. Then export the image as an SVG or whatever you need. I used crystaltux and the tango CoF.svg images for some labels. I've never bothered with lightscribe.

I've never had a problem with lightscribe. I have never had a failed disk and they always come out looking great sans color. It's nice to just throw the disk in there, make an image and go. Also I don't have to worry about the extra sticker coming off or getting wet/ink smearing.:guitar:

I know this is kind of off topic, but what software do you use for lightscribe?

Hmm, having just bought a lightscribe drive, I'm interested in this but I have a question. Isn't that LaCie software just for LaCie drives? Or will it work with any manufacturer?
Mine's made by Liteon.

The LaCie software works with any drive that does lightscribe as far as I know. There are basically 2 programs for linux that do lightscribe labels.

one is from LaCie and is commonly known as "4L"

The other is from lightscribe.com and is known as Simple Labeler.

The software at lightscribe.com seems to be updated more frequently, but both of these apps burn in different ways so it's handy to have both.

Ok, thanks. I'll look into those once I buy some discs.

Here's a simple lightscribe (text only) CD label in lightscribe format for windows users. To add the penguin image you just google for it, right click and save image to HD. Download the Lightscribe Template Labeler, run the program, open file and browse to the label, click to add image (browse to the penguin image), change font, format etc. and print. Just remember to insert the CD or DVD UPSIDE DOWN. Hope this could help someone out there. Linux truly is THE OS of the future...... Just wish someone with the skill and knowlege would develop a CAD alternative to Autocad like GIMP is to Photoshop.

LaCie's lightscribe labeler is IMO the best Linux labeler out there. You can run it on a 64-bit system if you have ia32 libs installed and install with dpkg -i --force-architecture.

The labeler needs to be run as root but that's not a huge deal. I've used it for years.
