Hi all,

I don't know what the 'main' forum is around here. I wanted to post this and make some new friends.

I've been using Ubuntu for almost a year straight now. I had a dual-boot set up with Kubuntu 6.10 and WinXP until recently. Then, I switched to Xubuntu 7.10 and got rid of windows all together.

I've been loving Ubuntu since I made the switch last year. I'd always played around with Linux, and I work with Linux servers, but never could totally make the jump for one reason or another. Kubuntu 6.10 was awesome, but I never could get my video drivers working, and there were always little quirks here and there.

Now I've got 7.10. I love the widgets and customizability of Xfce, and with Envy, getting the right driver was really easy. I also finally have Steam and Half Life 2 working, with a few small issues here and there that I intend to take care of sometime this week.

Also, I have Compiz running with the gnome-window-decorator, and I LOVE it. I still haven't found all the ins-and-outs of customizing it, but the plugins I have now (configured using gnome-compiz-prefs and ccsm) are really cool.

Anyways, just saying Hi, and that I absolutely love this ****. Getting my box set up exactly the way I want it, and getting the Nvidia drivers to work took about a week all told, but that's fine with me.

Is there an IRC channel you guys hang out in? A rules page or anything for the forums?

Thanks,
-Cursim

Me too. I would still mount Ubuntu on my hard drive if it were a real woman.

I lol'd.

Anywho, Curism, it's good that you've found Ubuntu, and it's great that you want to be a part of the community! I'm always on the prowl for Ubuntu friends, so if you're up for a chat, feel free to PM me for whatever reason.

Thanks. It actually hasn't been perfect. I collectively spent about 20 hours crawling through forums and stuff to get the 3d drivers and wine working properly. Although I have to say it's gotten better, as I tried both a year ago and neither worked. I've learned a lot since then, but the new versions of everything do work a bit better (wine is an excellent example). The latest nvidia drivers caused me lots of headaches, but I found the earlier drivers which are working great! :)
