A week ago the news got out that Microsoft had approached OSDL for a comperative study between Linux and Windows. OSDL confirmed this, however, they did not provide an answer to Microsoft's request. On Friday, Joe Brockmeier had a chance to have a short talk with Cohen [CEO of OSDL], and got a definitive answer. Cohen said that "there is no way we would do a joint research project with Microsoft."

Thank God.

Im Sure Linus and the two Andys would never have stood for it.

Well I can see where he's coming from..."If OSDL were to participate in such a project, Cohen said that when the report came out, no matter what the broad outcome of the report was, anything negative about Linux would be exploited for marketing purposes by Microsoft."

However, it seems like a lose-lose situation here because now MS can go around saying, "What is the open-source community afraid of, what are they trying to hide?"

Doesn't matter if it's true or not...organizations like MS (or political groups, certain types of attorneys, etc.) play off exactly that kind of FUD because it unfortunately works for them...
