Ubuntu 7.1 - new to Linux the last month or so - put on an old IBM ThinkPad X40 (after replacing a dead HD & upping RAM to 512 MB) - having a LOT of fun w/ this OS; currently on a weekend vacation in the North Carolina mountains - doing 'wireless' networking in our rented 'cottage' w/o a problem from this computer; so far, seems to be working for me! :)

Kubuntu 7.10 here too, as I don't like GNOME. Kubuntu needs more attention in my opinion, and hopefully it will get more polished and bug-free in the next release.

Although my current Desktop has Ubuntu 7.10, i voted for Xubuntu 7.10. The Dev's on Xubuntu made a good effort on replacing obsolete or limited applications, like XFBurn by brasero, Gxine byTotem.

But more noticeable is the new Xubuntu artwork, which in my opinion distance this distro from the other ubuntu products. And is fantastic what the Murrina Blue Storm achieved in speed increase when compared with the default clearlooks that was bundled in Xubuntu 7.04.

After testing Xubuntu 7.10 i have decided to downloaded an murrina Human Theme, and i noticed some speed inprovement also my Ubuntu 7.10 Box.

I think that for Herdy it would be a great idea for the ubuntu artists, to drop the clearlook theme engine on which the human theme is based and use/create a new theme based on Murrina.

I wasn't surprised , as i said earlier it's a very good polished distro, they've managed to make it faster, which was difficult since xubuntu is indeed a small team.

I think that Kubuntu from the 3 is the one who bring less innovations (only a couple of small updates to applications). And people are not upgrading because they are waiting for KDE4, and realize that each day that passes KDE 3.5, is a dead and outdated DE.

Those are the reasons i encourage all to try Xubuntu 7.10, it really worths it ;)

I won't argue with that, I use Xubuntu since I got started (Edgy) and I really love it. I gave a shot to both Ubuntu and Kubuntu, but I finally kept Xubuntu!

I use "elbuntu" which not many people know about. I also use "fluxbuntu" which is not as good as "elbuntu" but is still faster than Ubuntu. Elbuntu uses the enlightenment desktop manager, which is fast, and provides MANY special effects that are light on system requirements. Try it!

I use Xubuntu because it is the only distro that works well on all my hardware which includes an old P3 laptop that has a cardbus external CD-Rom drive and no network socket.

For me the Alternate CD is (X)(K)Ubuntu's single best feature.
