Currently all our photos in one shared place, a public shared area making moving files around easier, web calendar going up and a possible print server. Any other uses? Home network (3.5 ubuntu, 5 MS various). 2 adults 3 teenagers.

A MediaWiki Wiki is fun to have.

I'll resist the urge to say "replace it with Debian".

Make a OS X Time Machine-style backup of your documents. There are a couple of similar apps for Linux like this one: http://code.google.com/p/flyback/

And check out firefly:
http://www.fireflymediaserver.org/

To share music and videos on a network. The shared music shows up as a shared computer in iTunes for iTunes users, also.

Jinzora is a cool thing to use a server for:

(similar idea to firefly)

It would be good to break its' spirit lest it go from 'gutsy' to 'insolent' to 'insubordinate'. Best to nip these things early, I say..

Thanks for the pointers - I like the idea of a central music repository - and I like the look of this http://www.zoneminder.com/ - more disk space required I think.

Motion (http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/WebHome) isn't quite as fat.
