View Full Version : Sound Loss...Possibly Due to an Update

Hi guys/gals,

I posted this in the general forums too but so far...no luck with suggestions there so I'm gonna hit you up for some ideas.

Best I can recall is that after one of the recent updates that I got since going with GG my sound stopped working. It does make that drum roll when logging on but that's it so I know the card/speakers/ etc are working. This was also verified by booting into XP to check.

So, I've been googling for sound issues after updates, and so forth and so far...no luck.

Am presently thinking of wiping any additions application wise other than what was included when GG was installed and see what happens from there.

Any ideas from any of you would be great. Can reach me at: wilsons DOT way AT gmail DOT com as well as here, IM or IRC later tonight.

Thanks for reading. 8^)

Have you tried restarting the box?

It is the leading cause of fixing problems!

@ Michael: Yeah, more times than I cared for. No luck there.

I now have sound again though.

What I did here was to remove some added software via Add/Remove and go back with the mostly basic configuration. Then, logged out and then back in again.
This is when I noticed the familiar Ubuntu theme music being played while the logon process continued.

So, there's obviously some bugs in the ointment as far as some sound packages are concerned.

I am having the same problem. I have to reboot like 7 times before sound comes back. I still can't figure out what is causing this. It's almost annoyed me to the point of not using Gutsy.
I have tried multiple things in the way of sound config with no help.
I was sick this week-end and the only time I got on the computer I spent 1 hour and many many reboots before getting sound. Now I am afraid of cutting it off because I know I won;t have sound when it starts back.
I guess, I will have to try a fresh install.

I went with pretty much the original apps from the install and mine came back. Beats the heck out of me but it seemed to work.

That is what I was thinking about doing as well.
Fresh install, then monitor what I put on it to see when I lost it. Although I don,t think I have much on it anyway but maybe this will isolate the issue.
