If you had a magic wand and could aim it at Linux and change one thing, what would it be?

If you had a magic wand and could aim it at Linux and change one thing, what would it be?I'd make it so the pro-uber-configurability crowd doesn't rabidly hate good defaults. Not everyone wants to configure it their way.

Better suport from gaming and hardware companys.

Well, my first idea would be to suddenly give them a few million dollars so they can just do nothing but work on the thing.

More "realistically" I'd probably say to give it better touchpad controls. Minor, but it's driving me bonkers.

I would wave my magic wand over the whole video scene on Linux, so the backend encoders and the video editing programs would work really well.

I have to agree with others here... I would increase the hardware support... though the printer install process in gutsy is the fastest I have ever experienced!

ESPECIALLY the support for winmodems.... If it wasn't for that, I could probably convince some clients to try it instead of purchasing another computer for their older Windows systems....

I would perfect hardware support, have all software developers create native versions of their software for Linux, and remove all Windows fanboys. :)

One thing I would change?

I would change the market share to 99% Linux.

Add DX support (or have more games with OpenGL support), so that I can game happily in Ubuntu.

nah, no fun if I can't break the thing! I'd have to find a new hobby.

Seriously, encourage native versions of the major applications used by both home and commercial users. Level the playing field really so that Linux could compete on its merits.

I'd give it a fair chance to compete, letting it thrive without fud and desinformation.

I'd design Linux to use windows device drivers .

Make software installation as friendly as in windows. I have a mp3 ripper written for windows 98 in 1999 still works in vista. If Linux made software more independent It would see allot better support.

If you had a magic wand and could aim it at Linux and change one thing, what would it be?

Fix the 2030 year problem, let it allow to use Windows EXE files (like Cedaga), make it load under 3 seconds and made smaller.

Give it full DirectX support. I'd love to be able to play games flawlessly on Linux. I also think it's one of the things decreasing Linux market penetration. Many PC users have low requirements. As long as they can listen to music, browse the Web and create simple text documents, they don't need any more. These people can use Linux. But then there's another large group that has these requirements plus playing games.
