After many painful hours searching around on websites whose pings are in millions, I finally got the files I've been searching for for the past year.
Today, as of 9:00PM EDT, my iPaq rx3715 is running Opie (http://opie.handhelds.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/).
The basics of the device are working (touchscreen, buttons, sleep), so the next challenge will be to get the wireless LAN working, followed by installing some sort of browser (I'll probably take the simplest route possible and cross-compile Lynx. You gotta start somewhere)
I will upload screen shots as soon as I can get them off of the device (which means as soon as I shut the thing down, pull out the memory card, and put it in my laptop)
