You can seem to watch TV programmes on the BBC with Linux. I discovered
this when I tried to watch the latest video they have about Leopard
(Mac) and I then went to see if I could watch a Eastender trailer, which
I can.

I am running 64 bit Ubuntu Gutsy. Firefox asked me to install the
missing plug in Xine or MPlayer. I installed MPlayer and hey presto the
BBC videos work.

I am sure I could not do this before? This is pure chance by reading the
news BBC item on Leopard.

you can watch programs using the normal ways, but i think it's the iplayer which shows repeats of all programs in the last 7 days which linux can't use.

i've never seen the iplayer so i don't know much about it, but i think streaming things like the tech program Click and watching things with the iplayer are two different things. maybe not though

Timelines for other platforms

There will be a Vista version of BBC iPlayer available this year. We are actively working on Mac and cross platform support.

The BBC iPlayer Video On Demand service is intended to be launched before the end of this year on Virgin Cable services and will be available on ADSL Video On Demand services soon after.

Other platforms and services will follow.
i've never liked the bbc much, i like some of their programs though. however, they can whistle for their stupid licence for all i care, i'm not paying them to be discriminated against!

I just checked out your website - I'm not really sure how legal it is? - There was that guy in bristol (I think) who recently got done for linking to tv websites so actually streaming it from your servers might not be a good idea...

Hmm, I still get this message:
"We're currently working on Linux versions for all of our premium services.

Until then, please feel free to check out our music archive!"
