There have been some interesting changes at BitTorrent.
1) They make a deal with the MPAA and then release a version 6 of Bit Torrent as a propriety application for Windows and Mac with no GNU / Linux version.

2) The Pirate Bay responds by creating their own P2P protocol with an expected release sometime in the next 12 months. The new protocol will be backwards compatible with existing torrents, open source and robust against ISP shenanigans such as traffic shaping. They also predict the demise of Bit Torrent in 12 months.

Will Bit Torrent survive as a protocol for the distribution of Free Libre Open Source Software?
