I have a .sub file (a binary file) which I believe is a subtitle file. Is there any way to read it, in Linux or Windows? I've searched around and can't find anything.

if you have the movie and the .sub and .idx files in the same directory, then vlc can play the movie with subtitles, if that is what you wanted..
but I think you will need the .idx file too.

a. Open it with a text editor.
b. Open a video file using kmplayer, right click on the video, subtitles and add subtitles then select the sub file. The subtitles will then be shown along with the movie.
