So, I was reading digg, and came across this article:

http://www.apreche.net/2007/10/27/linux-doesnt-lack-drivers-it-lacks-complete-drivers/

What it essentially argues is that whilst Linux has drivers for pretty much most hardware, most of the drivers are incomplete or badly coded.

I actually think he may have a point. A lot of the driver releases, being clean-room reverse-engineered, are unfinished, and will require much more work to be done.

Also, some of the drivers being released by the companies themselves seem to be missing features.

But at least they exist, unlike new Windows releases.

If they didn't have to be reverse engineered, they would be better. Give them nothing, they deliver, give them something to work with, watch out!

the driver that I have to use for my video card is just fine, but that does not apply to everyone and i sure do feel sorry for some people with unsupported ATI cards or whatnot

I'm surprised as to how well windows default drivers work with hardware.
