Hi

Lately my newsgroup downloads have been 80-100k when downloading from comcast; they used to be blazing fast at 700-800k. We have all heard the reports of comcast packet shaping bittorrent traffic, any word if they are doing this with newsgroups traffic?

I am already encrypting all of the traffic over port 443.

i haven't heard anything other than horror stories about comcast for several years. surely there are alternatives to that worthless ISP in your area?

I wish I could change isp's but my living situation will not allow me to. I just wanted to know if anyone else is having issues since I could not find anything about isp shaping nntp traffic; only bittorrent.

Screw comcast and their packet shaping. At this rate the internet as we know it will be dead in a few years. Packet shaping is going to become much more common in the next few years as more people use bandwidth hungry apps. Whats next slowing down youtube videos, or how about preventing me from playing unreal, I know these apps uses a lot of bandwidth.

They are being sued for this. Do some searches and join the foundation and help to be responsible for throttling their cash reserves for screwing over customers with impugnity for years on end.

Could you provide a link? I have search google and still can not find any confirmed reports of nntp throttling.

Just saw this on the consumerist (http://consumerist.com/consumer/comcast/comcast-ceases-throttling-traffic-after-negative-ap-story-314759.php). I call BS because my downloads are still slow.

I haven't heard of them shaping anything other than P2P traffic, but I'm sure NNTP won't be far behind. The only problem is that in the user agreement you likely agreed that they are allowed to manage the network to provide the most efficient and best connection for all of it's users. While it may not have been bolded out on the front page, it's probly in there somewhere. Kinda crappy, and not trying to defend them or anything cuz I am right there with the rest thinking it sucks, but I doubt the lawsuit is gonna turn up too much.
