Not doing anything wrong by selling ubuntu, postage seems a rip off though.

What is this "Ubuntu 2008"? Nothing wrong with selling Ubuntu, but that isn't even a real Ubuntu distro AFAIK.

Interesting that the guy also sells this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110179340911

And this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110180356356

Nothing like making a buck off of free software...

Why on earth do the Ebay links I click from here say "shop victoriously" at the top and what does it mean!? When I actually use Ebay myself to buy and sell things, it doesn't say that.

Personally I hate those that make a profit from open source this way, but there is an interesting point here.

Look at how much positive feedback he is getting?!

Proves that marketing is the key to linux and that it is not as bad of a 'unfinished' product as the trolls on this forum bitch about.

People will buy :)

So what? 2008 sounds much better than 7.10. It makes that version of Ubuntu seem like a product of the future.

BTW this seller is VERY unethical, look at this item:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110180363957&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RCRX_Pr4_PcY_BIN_IT&refitem=110161842061&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget
he is selling openoffice for download.

That is deeply unfair, since its a free download. At least with the CD sales they get something for the money.

Buyer beware.

it might be modified in some way and a url to HIS host. we don't know for sure if he's just providing the OO default url.

It will have to be modified substantially to justify the 100% MS Office compatibility claim.

True.

His use of the ubuntu name / logo is probably illegal, though.

and he is offering his UBCD (actually ; The ultimate boot CD : http://ubcd.sourceforge.net/ ) under the GPL, while it is actually a collection of software under miscallenous licenses (eg the Seagate / Maxtor / .. disk tools e.a.)

other that that, yes, you can redistribute open source /GPL'd software - and charge for it. but this particular case smells fishy to me.

Still, the point remains your allowed to charge for ubuntu for the CD and time it took to burn it, but if you charge for a download link of something thats freely downloadable then thats just wrong in my books.

Anyone who buys that is retarded, because a simple google search of what your bidding on would tell you there is a free download.
