Sirs,
The machine I have recently been given is a Dell 1501 Inspiron with an 80GB hard drive, a 1024k memory and AMD's Turion 64X2 processor. I have just downloaded Ubuntu v7.10 desktop but as this machine is a laptop I am not certain I have even got the right one. I have not used Linux before and so would be staring right at the beginning. I have used in the past (over ten years ago) Unix.
I should also have told you that the machine has Vista Home Premium on it so would have to be partitioned to enable both the Vista and the Ubuntu.

yup you got the right version...The only real difference is between 32bit and 64bit. Good luck with your install, there's tons of help on these forums to get you through the rough patches.

This is the first thread I've ever seen in these forums entitled "Ubuntu".

Jon, you should win some sort of prize.
