FYI, around here we generally welcome new users with open arms...so let's keep this polite and friendly everyone. :)
That said, the only real thing that annoys me are the small number of new users who come in and, after playing with Ubuntu for 10 minutes (or after a failed installation attempt), tell us how things should be done...generally to make things more closely resemble their favorite, previous operating system.
People who come in and ask questions and who are willing to do a little learning/research are most welcome, as are their questions.

Agreed Please people i am not pushing this to insult new user in any way and i myself order every new version in bulk and give it to as many people as i can.
I have to agree though that the guys who expect things to work out the box gets to me a bit

How would you define a new user? :P
Well I think that -new and old users alike - what is most annoying is people who ask things that are really easy to find. Basically the lazy people. And of course it's OK for a user to ask something that is basic knowledge (everyone has to learn that one way or the other).
Maybe Ubuntu needs a more easily accesible "getting started" with a low entry level that covers most basic administrative tasks
In response to the remark that users who expect everything to Just Work (tm) are annoying, I agree, but keep in mind that most people usually buy their pc's with an operating system already installed and configured.
If properly installed and configured on the right hardware, with a vendor program that certifies hardware for Linux use :p, people who would buy a linux computer would get just the same "out-of-the-box" feeling that they feel the other major OSes give.

Here's an idea. I'd be amazed if it hasn't been suggested before.
When a user first installs Ubuntu, open up a small "tour" application which will show them round the system, how to open applications, save files, install new packages etc and then close. It might save some of the more basic questions appearing here.
Nunu

Absolutely agreed that is something else that get to me a bit is hardware vendors that refuse to produce drivers for the popular distros. lets sy L**** will create a Linux driver for some of there mice or keyboards it would be awesome. Imagine a fancy keyboard with back lighting and the works that give you the system usage for your Linux distro.

Also true. But to reiterate. The name for this topic should actually change. I don't want to insult the freshman they are here for the same reason we all are. Admins can you change the name of the topic to something like what annoys you in everyday life? is that even possible to do? :)

Anyone unwilling to learn annoys me regardless of their status.
I don't mind taking time with those willing to attempt to understand, and ask questions, but I really dislike it when they expect me to do everything, and then blame me or Ubuntu, or their computer, or their dog, instead of themselves.

But that gets to me in life as well not just on the forums. Luckily most of the people here listen to your help and gives it ago and will come back and tell you if it worked or not. Its just a small majority of people that gets on there back legs if things don't go there way. But that goes for some more older experienced users to, not just the new guys.

Two things:
1.) Bureaucracy
2.) People who check their mail from inside their car. I mean they are so lazy that they can't even walk down their road or driveway to get their mail, but have to stop in the middle of the road and lean out their car window. I know it's stupid of me to feel this way, but these people make me want to just shoot at them.

I have a long list of stuff that annoys me:
1. People who suddenly stop in the middle of pedestrian walkways when all is busy. (disabled/old people all exempted of course).
2. Two wheelers who think that the space between vehicles is so that they can try sliding through and scrape the two vehicles.
3. People who yell on the phone.
4. People who throw garbage just everywhere.

Did you ever think that some of those "large" people might possibly have a hormonal imbalance thus causing their huge weight gain? You should have a little compassion for people with medical problems.

What annoys me in life?
Since I am going to be a Social Science teacher in high school, and from all the substitute teaching experience I have, here is my list in order of importance:
Parents that just don't give a damn about their child's education.
Parents that think they are always right when they are clearly wrong.
Students that just don't give a damn about their education and future after high school.
School administrators and school board members who think they know it all and make teachers' lives a living nightmare.
Teachers' salaries are ridiculously low in some states - this is why I am leaving New Mexico and moving to Colorado to become a teacher. I want to be paid as a professional, because of all the schooling I must undergo, not the same as a McDonald's assistant manager.
My general list of annoyances in no specific order.
People that don't use common sense.
People that talk on cell phones in a restaurant. Hey *******! I did not take my wife out for a romantic dinner to listen to your conversation on a cell phone.
People that treat disabled or old people like garbage.
People (religious) that are so self-righteous. This is one thing I cannot stand about most Christians. I am Lutheran and I have a certain code of conduct I follow in life. One of them is not to demonise other people because of their personal religious or sexual preferences.
Christian ministers or priests that molest children. I hope they all enjoy their stay in Hell when they die.
Almost all Roman Catholics because they think, in a very delusional way I might add, that they are the only Christian religion on Earth.
People who drive while eating or talking on a cell phone. You would not believe how many times my wife and I have been almost hit because of these stupid morons.
Albuquerque drivers. Where did you people get a driver's license? Out of a "Cracker Jack" box?
Atheists. Just because they think they know it all.

We are all sympathetic with those with medical problems and the resulting physical conditions. However, look at a 2007 High School Year Book, and my mother's 1971 High School Year Book. This is not insensitivity to those that are heavy, just the modern life style choices which have made such avoidable conditions a hinderanc to others.

they'll happily overtax my gas, my car, but will they use some of that $$ to give me roads to drive on ? no, there we are, stockpiled on the highway going nowhere fast.
traffic lights that turn not matter if anyone is actually passing or not .. there you are, waiting for the lights to turn while noone crosses. stupid and a waste of gas and envoriment.
people who can obviosly understand the principle of queue's based on observation in your local supermarket, but suddenly becomes arrogant overlords when they're protected by 2 tons of metal... i really wanna smash their heads in.

I live in an apartment. There was a handicap spot for a man who needed to walk around with an oxygen tank. Obviously this is fine and well. However, he recently moved, and right before they painted over the handicap lines, a "large" woman ran out and got a marker...one she never had before.

I would argue any position on God or life that doesnt have scientific proof is a religion, including atheism.
You cant prove god doesnt exist, as any means to do so could be argued as "his method." At the same time, you cant prove god does exist with science, and so therefore it is also a religion and a faith.
Im agnostic, as I dont know either way. I dont have proof of either so I dont feel that I have the required knowledge to make a decision. Im going to go out on a limb and say I "lean athiest," but I still cant be a staunch one... I dont like how both sides claim to know it all, and they do so without the one thing that has progressed our lives (and regressed in ways): science. People should be free to practice any position they want, but ultimately they should do so WITH THOUGHT AND REASON behind the decision.
Things that annoy me:
People who do 50 in a 65, and dont care that you are behind them.
People who step on the gas to get to a parking spot before you do, even though you saw it, and didnt haul a** to get there..
People who accept something and dont ask questions.
Ignorant optimists/ pessimists
People who try to open there car door while im lane splitting, even though im careful and stop if im going to cut it close to a car- thats attempted murder folks...
and most of all:
Immorality- people who cheat, steal, deceive and lie. This is why im such a recluse..

People who are given information cards to fill out but don't fill them out.
I do data entry now for my school in the dept. of residence life and the students had to fillout information like their... Name, Room, ID number, Contact Info, Emergency Contact Info. Pretty basic. But a lot of them just didn't. And they left out the important stuff... like their student ID number. It's not their social security number, so when we ask for it, you give it. It's like communism. Get used to it.
I had this massive urge to call up every one of those students who gave their number, but missed something else (or "signed" their name "like a doctor" instead of Printing it, yeah, thanks) and just yelling at them. Seriously, didn't your mother teach you anything?
We have a class, like many schools, meant to acclimate freshman to the school. "This is where this building is. This is where Stu. Gov. is." We need to replace that with a class to acclimate students to the Real World (from now on called RW101). This will have handwriting skills. It will have basic laws (what information you're required to give to whom, and what you're allowed to deny). It will have all that stuff that elementary school and No Child Left Behind... forgot in these punks. I volunteer as a teacher, as long as I can use a very hard ruler on them.

In London it's the drivers of bendy-busses and their insistence on blocking every junction or pedestrian crossing on their route. In Spain it's that nobody ever seems to call me back. Come on people, my Spanish isn't that bad!! :)

Just a quick clarification so I dont lose any sleep
Threads that include the "Pi**" word in the title
Are you bothered literally by the letters "Pi**" in the title, "****" in the title, or just by what "Pi**" represents?
Hope my question isn't too **** poor?

People that think they are moderators and instead of actually helping problems like repeated threads or potentially rule-breaking thread titles they indulge in the threads in the epitome of hypocrisy.

Well, when people are *MEAN*.
I also have a problem with people who refuse to RTFM, but reserve the right to complain anyway.
All narrow minded people bug me, but i try to be nice to them anyway.

So, you're cool with smart criminals?
I hate being told to RTFM when there clearly isn't any FM, only some obscure website that no-one ever links to. Why not be honest and say RTFOWTNELT, or better yet GIVE THE LINK. There is a hell of a lot of stuff out there that Google just doesn't find.
(This is not aimed at Ubuntu Forum peeps, who have usually been extremely helpful, but there are other forums out there........)

What annoys you in life?
every problem in this world can be attributed to money.

I'll second that.
That and the notion of a class system, and the rut we've dug ourselves into where most people absolutely believe that we need both leaders and the downtrodden in order for society to function. And this, in turn, invented the horrid past-time of one-upmanship.
It's hard to know though whether this has been bred into us as a species over time or whether it's hard-wired into us somewhere, and I even find myself engaging in that most insipid of past-times occasionally without realising it, and that bothers me ever so slightly.
Bah, roll on til the day when we reverse engineer the human condition, I say.

when getting on the subway move all the way in until you can go not further. do not step in and stand in the doorway, blocking everyone else from gettin on.
if you are in a rotary you have the right of way Don't stop!!!

Supermarket carrier bags - aka urban tumbleweed
A few years ago they introduced a 'bag' tax here. When you go to a shop you now have to pay for your plastic bags. Since then I have really noticed a marked improvement in the amount of plastic tumbleweeds floating around.

Same here.
Other things are they leave the door open and the light stays on. Another one is the clock is unprogrammed and it keeps on flashing (same for a VCR).
