We have a small network in my household. I use a desktop, my girlfriend has a laptop. Both used to be Windows, but ever since I put Ubuntu on the desktop i've been getting a lot of (relatively good-natured) grief.
Even once you've smoothed out all the wrinkles of a Samba setup, you've got to deal with the fact that dual-booting means different paths to shared folders, printers, etc. And if that's not enough, it seems like XP (at least the home version) gets very confused by all this and doesn't reliably network up.
So my big suggestion for home harmony with a dual boot PC on your network is shovel all it's file and print sharing duties onto a NAS. You can get a RAID 1 NAS for sub-arm-and-leg prices these days, and I guarantee it'll lead to a blissful domestic environment forever more ;)
