View Full Version : Idea: Ubuntu Images

Getting some laptop systems working can be a pain in the ass depending on your hardware. some laptop features require a lot of tinkering, setting up ndiswrapper or ever recompiling hte kernel.

So why not do it he same way dell and the other major OEMS do it? with premade images.

laptops are not as diverse as desktops are, and generally, a single image can work for the majority of configurations of a model.

it will also cut down on install time, because it is simply copying uncompressed data from a cd or two over to the harddisk, rather than uncompressing/installing packages the way it does now.

what do you guys think about the idea of making a sort of tool to allow someone who has set up ubuntu correctly to create an image of their install and upload it to the net?
