So...found out today my 1gig RAM stick failed.

Also found out RAM is a big player in downloading things. I thought it was a connection between your modem and hard drive. I didn't think RAM had much to do with it. But when the failed stick was in I couldn't download anything much bigger then 250mb without it being failed.

The moral of the story: When random problems happen with your Linux PC, always check your RAM. :)

Overheating can also mimic any other hardware or software problem.
