View Full Version : Improper infraction!

October 21st, 2007, 01:45 PM
I was wondering what to do when a person from the forum staff is trying to punish innocent users. I decided to make the theme more widely opened to the public in order to get more feedback.
Long story short: There is a thread:
In it Wynne G Oldman (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=313232) said Ubuntu looks like ****:
I was furious at him and decided to call him a moron, although I didn't really meant to be rude. I was just trying to defend Ubuntu's honor and image:
(Post was edited).
Next, I receive a PM from bapoumba (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=171805):

Dear Zdravko,

You have received an infraction at Ubuntu Forums.

Reason: Inappropriate Language
Please watch your language. Thanks.

This infraction is worth 1 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.

Don't even dare to think of replacing the brownish look of Ubuntu! It is perfect! What moron said it looks like ****? Traitor! Ubuntu will punish you!
All the best,
Ubuntu Forums
I was now even more angry at the staff, because persons who are supposed to be devoted to Ubuntu allow the spirit of Ubuntu to be plagued and polluted with words like "****".
My answer was:

Dear bapoumba
Someone said Ubuntu looks like ****. I think that person deserves an infraction. Remove my point now, or I will have to report this private message to further authorities.

And here is the resposne I got:

Hello !

I've read the thread over again, and i did not find where someone said Ubuntu looked like ***. And personal insults are completely useless to make a point clear.
So are threats. Are you threatening me ?

As you can see bapoumba (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=171805) feels threatened and behaves as if I am the one that made a mistake.
I just don't understand how is it possible for such incompetent, arrogant and anti-Ubuntu persons like bapoumba (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=171805) to be members of forum staff.
I wait for your honest opinions.

Regardless of what anyone else says, it's not an excuse for you to have responded in the way you chose to. If you do not believe the way someone else is posting is compliant with forum guidelines, use the Report Posts mechanism to have the staff deal with it.

I see no wrongdoing in the issuing of this infraction.

The story gets even more ridiculous!
Have a brief look at this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=585863)thread, and particularly these posts:
And what kind of answer did I get? Just read it:

I can't believe a user like matthew (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=17635) (he must be a long-time Ubuntu user) would behave like that. He also feels threatened (this sounds familiar, doesn't it?) and tries to defend himself and his colleagues in a very impolite and cruel way by calling me indirectly a jerk. I must admit I just lost a lot of respect for matthew (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=17635).
But I will fight for my freedom! I am a human being and I deserve the right to fight for my freedom!

The infraction issued was appropriate and inline with the Forum COC. The staff member also acted with in their breif.

Also a decision by Admin staff had been made concerning the request made in the thread in question. The decision was made having regard to the bigger picture for these forums . The staff have the authority to make these decisions .

KiwiNZ (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=9), I wonder, if I start a thread and say "Ubuntu looks like ****", would I get an infraction point for this statement?

If you use inappropriate language and are impolite or disrestectful to staff etc or other members then more than likely yes you will if it were seen by staff.

If another memebr saw the post and believed it inappropriate they should report the post and not react to it in the same way. Then staff can deal with it.

You didn't answer my question! Would I receive an infraction point for calling Ubuntu ****?
