I don't know if you heard about this program. I hear good things about it, and it's goal, but I can't use it because I use Linux :KS

I tried searching for a Linux project in Google, but found nothing. What do you think?

i'd think about using it if it didn't phone home.

I sent them a mail:

I know that Linux users make up only a small part of the global
population which uses computers. However, even as a member of a small
minority, I would like to make a difference and to enter an energy
conscious use of my computer.

When can I expect a Linux version of your software?

By adjusting the power mode settings our advanced algorithms will predict how much you will save based on past PC usage and statistical data. Every time LocalCooling saves power by either turning of your screen, putting your hard drive to sleep when not used or shutting down your PC when you are away your savings stats will start to grow. Download LocalCooling today and optimize your PC's energy efficiency in minutes.

Well, if you're downloading something (not movies of course, that's illegal  ) then your computer is at use.

In my university, and I know that in many companies, people don't shutdown computers, they just log out, leaving it on for the night.

I think that's what "when not in use" refers to

The effect possibly could be stronger if more people sent their request for Linux versions of the software :)

i don't feel like writing a new one, so if it's ok with you, i'm going to mimic yours.

I thereby put my message in the public domain. Good luck to all of us!

So they can't make a linux version for 1 reason. They are a "Certified Microsoft Partner".

Also, I don't need an app that phones home, wasting my bandwidth, and reducing my sense of security.

On top of that,

I don't like to reboot.

Besides, the program is just a DPMS manager that shuts your computer off and phones home... big deal?

When my computer is being used, it's on. When it's not being used, it's off, along with all the gubbins that comes with it (flashing little standby lights on the monitor etc). Simple and no software needed.

All it does is change the default power management settings and phone home. Plus it has some fancy "trees saved" BS.

If your concerned about power use, you can easy set-up your machine to shut off the monitor, hard drive, and computer, or go to sleep or hibernate.

I run MythTV on this, so I want it on nearly all the time. I have the monitor and graphics card shut down when I'm gone. And if I wanted to I could set MythTV to shut off and start up when not recording. All with no extra software.

If you don't care, then simply DON'T send a mail and DON'T use it.

Oh well, I can't doubt of their/his good will, maybe they're just short of staff. Since they are not making any profit out of it, that's the explanation I find
