I believe I gave this the fighting shot, but still far too many problems to consider this a solid offering from the boys/girls at Ubuntu.

System: Dell Vostro 1400 laptop

1. Sound. This simply will not work in spite of the many well written guides on this forum. I tried them all.

2. Wifi. Again, some great guides, but it still doesn't work reliably. I'm using a Broadcom 1390. The problem is that the restricted repository has me reinstall the firmware everytime I restart the laptop. Pain in the ***.

3. Compiz adds and deletes functionality each time I restart the computer. For instance, it will remove "wggle" and give me "blur". What's up with that?

4. Firefox. Ughh...not good. It'll allow popups, yet notify me that it just prevented them from appearing. LOL.

5. Grub will not load my Vista install. Again, some good info on fixing this, but none of it worked.

I'll be back for Ranger Rick or whatever they title the next version.

I think I found the root of your problems:

Dell Vostro.

Any other dell is pretty good--but that one just has issues--period, regardless of OS. If Vista works for you, good on ya mate.
