Is there a way I can install ubuntu on a computer without a monitor is something like ssh?
I want to install a server edition on a laptop I have that is connected to an ethernet. But the laptops monitor is dead and I don't have any monitors in my house. Another laptop I have has 7.10 installed and on the same network. So could I install it from another laptop?

Most laptops, even old ones have an external port to hook up a monitor...have you looked at this option?

Yea, I know where and what the port is, I even have the connecter, but I just don't have a monitor. Everything in my house is a laptop.

That would require some sort of VGA cable.

Ok I got an external monitor and got my laptop to send video out in Mac OS X. But when I put i the Linux CD and have the monitor hooked up, its blank because its still using the laptops monitor which is broken.
is there a way to get Ubuntu to read the other monitor? And I'm trying to install 7.04 server on a Mac PPC.

bump! I am also having this problem; external monitors don't work on ppc laptops by default, you have to boot osx it seems for them to work.

i may be a little late but:
is there a way to modify the server install cd so it would automatically start
openssh server with a default password and get an ip from the dhcp server?
