As an outsider reading this today on DistroWatch before seeing it here, I have to tell you I took their comments as largely good and positive.

In a Previous thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=5198), we discussed that Distrowatch considered Ubuntu as their 2nd option for their new distro.

Eventually, they chose FreeBSD because of their maturity. Then, out of curiousity, they upgraded their Debian Woody server to Ubuntu Warty, and apparently it went smoothly...

DistroWatch has moved, part II

Last week we reported about the reasons behind the DistroWatch.com server move - from Debian to FreeBSD. We also mentioned that Ubuntu (http://distrowatch.com/ubuntu) Linux was a strong contender to replace the aging Debian Woody installation, but we were hesitant about the upgrade process to a fast-growing, but still very young distribution. After the site was safely on the new machine, we decided, out of curiosity, to upgrade the old Debian Woody installation to Ubuntu Warty. We are pleased to report that the upgrade went without a single hitch. First we installed the Ubuntu base system, then upgraded the remainder of the installed applications, before proceeding with the kernel upgrade - from 2.2.20 to 2.6.8.1. All went well and we were able to boot into the new kernel and new operating system without any hassles at all. Well done, Ubuntu developers, we are impressed!
