Try opening up "Software Sources", go to Download From, Other..., and "Select Best Server"

I just did that and am having no problems updating/installing :)

Great advice. There are lots of servers that AREN'T being overly-taxed right now.

Last year was 5 days, I give it 7 now.

I was trying to install Tremulous and sauerbraten (I've had Gutsy for two months, reinstalled for testing reasons 3 days ago) and got a whole 640 B/s

Quit that and am going to just download and install them both manually.

I'm glad I know about that now. I was just going to wait a few days to try downloading any packages.

You can always download the alternate installer torrrent, if you want to upgrade an existing install. (At least, I'm pretty sure you can).

It continues to amaze me, the technology behind those; a system where a bigger crowd and more noise is beneficial!

Im getting errors saying that the package is not made for my computer type now...

Mozilla Thunderbird Mail/News cannot be installed on your computer type (i386)

Either the application requires special hardware features or the vendor decided to not support your computer type.

Go for a clean install and save the trouble of the unforseen bugs.

Got it from an icon pack on KDE-look.org
http://www.paolinoland.it/kde/PaolinoLandIcons/Crystal_Diamond_Icons.html

Unpack it and just choose an image.

EDIT
Here are some good ones also
