Your patience will probably depend on how well you get helped and when. Bumping your thread every fifteen minutes because you forgot how to use a land line is a little rediculous. Why not search google or ask in virtual box support. You are in a ubuntu support forums asking about using an iphone under virtual box running some other os.

~~Tito~~
October 20th, 2007, 01:19 AM
No, I am running ubuntu, using Virtual Box to run windows. I need help, my landline is a fax line.

Buddy first of all IMO its a bad idea to try unlock\activate or whatever, your iphone using a virtual machine due to the fact that it just does not work really well as for now.
but ssh should work so if thats all you need and having issues with it try www.hackint0sh.org
they folks there will assist you gladly.

hope it helps.

I connected it the for the very first time on my computer and it connected to windows for like 10 sec and then it dissipated. I saw the New device thing and everything. I want it just to do that. I want the usb to skip ubuntu when its on and go straight to Virtual box so it can stay connected.

with vmware i only got it to be recognized as a camera . and it does stay connected.
if it being mount with ubuntu first i just unmount it than in vmware i connect it using vm->removable devices-> usb .

Where do I unmount it because I don't see any drive. . . Where? It doesn't mount as a file system it mounts as a camera in ubuntu and when I exit it it stops charging..

This is one of the reasons I would suggest a Duel Boot.
Virtual Box is great but it does have it's corks. Dont even
bother with their forum the people their are useless. Questions
go unanswered for months if at all.

I see that you are using Virtual Box to run Windows XP
You should only plug in the iPhone after the
VM has loaded and Windows is up an running in the VM.
Also, You need to set up Filters.

Have you set up a Filter for the Iphone in Virtual Box?

Sorry you're having problems but wow you're really annoying with your constant bumping and whining.

It's obvious people either don't right now have a solution to help you and/or you're constant bumping and complaining is driving those who may want to help you away.

Take a deep breath and step away for a few hours, then check back.

1. Go to your Virtualbox gui tool, the window that starts when you start Vbox ...

With windows powered down, Select your windows machine, in the "Details" tab select "USB Controller" :

Tic the "Enable USB controller" box. On the left there is an icon for your usb devices, it has a green "+" on it, left click that and enable your IPhone (select the phone from the list and click on it)

2. Power up windows. You should now be able to use the IPhone in windows. If not, this time in the windows virtual machine box, right click on the little usb icon in the lower right part of the virtual machine and select your iphone from the list of devices.

HTH

Oh, I had to right click it. . . I thought that just meant the status of usb. Will try thanks dude. Will tell you what happens!

Did you get this working? If so can you please explain in detailed steps what you did?

My guess is that the reason for this is because VirtualBox Guest Addition installs USB 1.1 not USB 2.0
