Whitebuntu??

There was a discussion about it on the backyard. I don't think it's anything more than a joke (a really bad one actually). There is no place to download anything on their page.

In that case, it does not distribute anything and can be safely removed from the list without making it incomplete.

Some pretty cool initiatives are going on I think.. My favorite must be:
Ubuntu Satanic Edition (http://www.ubuntusatanic.org)

I already got it, although it is not a new distro, just a theme and such. It would make a wicked distro in every sense of the word.

Its FAQ mentions a Klingon distro. Does such a thing exist?

Not that I could use it, but then the list in the OP would be incomplete.

There is also Goobuntu.
Googles own Ubuntu-based distribution.
But is only used internally at Google and there are no plans to release a public Goobuntu.
But it exists so it should be in the list.

Can someone explain how whitebuntu would be offensive?
Is it the same as Black Entertainement Television (BET) is offensive? Or Womens television network?

It is racism, and to many people, racism is offensive because people are the same on the inside, no matter how they look on the outside.

Then how can theaters charge different prices based on age? That sounds like age discrimination to me.

Also how is having an ubuntu distribution for "white" people any different than having a television channel for "black" people? You are simply targeting your product towards certain consumers.

SimplyMEPIS is no longer based on Ubuntu as of version 7.0.

Whitebuntu is just a parady site. It's not so much a "joke" as it is a means of showing how people can be the very thing they hate by sending hate mail, calling them names, and making threats against the Whitebuntu team because they disagree with them. They're basically showing how people are intollerant of the intollerant. I think it's an important message that people forget sometimes and the definition of "hate speech" varies depending on who's speaking and who's listening. But anyways, it can be removed since there is no actual distribution.

There also used to be a site called Gaybuntu which represented the LGBT community, (though like Whitebuntu, didn't actually distribute anything) but AFAIK, the site is no longer up.

Then how can theaters charge different prices based on age? That sounds like age discrimination to me.

Age discrimination is legal and allowed because of practical reasons. A six year old can't drive a car due to maturity issues and cognitive skills. Age discrimination is not okay in some situations though, like when applying for a job and choosing between a 20 year old and a 50 year old if they both meet the requirements. Plus, assuming we live long enough, we go through this large cycle of aging. There is no point in time in which I'll ever become black and female (I'm a white male).

I completely agree. It's funny how things associated with white males are "racist" or "sexist" but very rarely is it the other way around. Has anyone here ever seen Chris Rock do stand up? What would happen if a white guy did his jokes?

The difference is inclusion.
Whitebuntu states that the software is only to be used by whites.
BET doesn't say anywhere that non blacks aren't allowed to watch, only that it targets a black audience. You can participate even if you are not black. Also, there are no special interrest groups for white heterosexual males in the western world, because most things created are already targeted at them.
having said that, I don't watch much BET, not just because I can't watch it here in Europe, but also because they make an assumption of black people which i do not agree with or fit in. Black people, just like any other race, are diverse and they don't all listen to R&B and play basketball.
I also have never really heard chris rock say that white people are inferior or should be hated, rather he makes a lot of fun of the differences between blacks and other races, mostly white people since they are the ones that predominate in the area he comes from.
The funny thing is that I see a lot of resemblance in the things he tells and the things I saw growing up in the Caribbean.

I am not saying that there is no racism in the community of minorities, but having different needs does not automatically mean exclusion of those that are different.
For the record I am both black and gay, I don't hate other races or sexes. Just that what i read on the whitebuntu page sounded really scary, thank god it's just a joke.

Yep, the bandwagon owned by Debian.

All these distros are Debian based, so is Ubuntu.

Thankyou Ian Murdock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Murdock).

I have tried a lot of them from the list and I think Baltix GNU/Linux is one of the best. Maybe because I live in Lithuania and its optimized for Baltic users :)
