Woo Hoo... figured I'd check it out for the heck of it, and got the message :

6 CDs requested on 2007-10-08. 6 CDs were approved and sent to the shipping company 15 hours ago.
Please note requests usually take from 4 to 6 weeks to deliver, depending on the country of shipping.

So tick..tick..tic.. I'll be marking my calendar for those bad-boys! ;)

I just requested mine today, and it only allowed me to ask for 1 or 2 cds; no more :(

I just requested mine today, and it only allowed me to ask for 1 or 2 cds; no more :(I ordered 2 Ubuntu (through the Ubuntu website), 2 Kubuntu (through the Kubuntu website) and 2 Edubuntu (from... you guessed it, the Edubuntu website). They combine it into one order on their side but you have to go through all 3 websites.

I usually get the CDs either closer to the shorter time period or I think one time I got it in less than 4 weeks but that was in-between releases, not something "hot off the presses".

I got 2 of each because I'm part of a computer club and being able to pass some around is very helpful. I've got one guy using Ubuntu, 1 using Kubuntu and I'm using Edubuntu but getting 2 lets me pass them out or keep one to copy off of.

So far I only know of 1 (Dapper) CD I've gotten from them that failed the disk test (corrupt files). Luckily I had another so I was successful with that one.

Why would you need anymore?you can just make copies when the 2 you ordered come since its legal to do so.Unless you lack media to burn to then I guess you might wanna order more.

Personally I ordered 6 cds last time to give to some people I know but I don't see the point in doing so anymore I can just make copies for people if they want it.My brother used Ubuntu for a total of about two weeks before bailing back to Windows XP lol.

Not every one has extremely fast internet.A 700 MB download could take a very long time on a poor internet connection or dial up.

Also, some of us are collectors of Shipit CD's, because Ubuntu has warm Human art, and Kubuntu has cutting edge, very graphically pleasing art.

Just requested 1 Ubuntu 1 Kubuntu, waiting for approval.

I don't want to request more, just wanted to ask why I don't even have the option.

And I didn't have option for Kubuntu, only Ubuntu . . .

You have to order Kubuntu from Kubuntu's site. Its the same for edubuntu.Too bad Xubuntu does not ship CDs.

Didn't know that. I could bet that with Edgy I ordered Ubuntu and Kubuntu from the same place . . . But thanks anyway

Like was posted by others, just login the Ubuntu-shipit page (https://shipit.ubuntu.com/), Kubuntu-shipit page (https://shipit.kubuntu.org/), and Edubuntu-shipit page (https://shipit.edubuntu.org/) all at the same time(same login for each section), click in the order on the respective pages and then do a final check and it should show the order combined.

I wasn't aware of how to do this until recently myself and I was always wondering how some people were getting those mixed bags of *buntu. I actually emailed ShipIt and they are the ones that told me the order(s) gets combined.

Yeah, I wish Xubuntu was shipped too, since I have dial-up at home and an older machine (P3/500Mhz/256ram).

The fact they send CDs for free is what got me into Ubuntu in the first place, because I had just gotten a computer without a hard drive, bought a hard drive and didn't have my previous access to broadband to download whatever distro I wanted (changed jobs).

If it wasn't for that, I'd probably still be using Gentoo.

Dial-up is notorius for cutting the connection, without a way to salvage the product.

Precisely. I installed a Feisty CD the other day. There were 125 updates, 190 MB, that took 12 hours on 56k running closer to 40 most of the time.

Do a netinst (mini) boot install, and you'll always get the latest packages.

Will they send you an alternate CD of 7.10 64bit? I really would install this NOW if my damn CD burner worked (its a hardware problem, not buntu)...:(

I almost want to purchase it instead of making them send me a free one, you know? Id feel kind of guilty not paying them...

(for the record, I was at a computer club meeting which has broadband access and is the 1 time per month I have broadband access).

I didn't even get to download FreeCiv (http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page) (my latest addicition):frown:
