The speed of Ubuntu is fantastic inside Vmware player on Windows XP.

What is it like running the other way around with Windows XP running inside Vmware player on Ubuntu?

Can I now look forward to making Ubuntu my main OS?

I do a lot of work in Dreamweaver and Photoshop, if these can run as well as in Vmware player on Ubuntu in Vmware Player then I could make the switch.

I have 2gb of Ram and 256MB X1600 ATI graphics card?

I know there are other alternatives to Vmware player, what can you recommend?

virtualbox works well too.
2GB might be not enough since you do a lot of graphic. Ram is cheap now so you should get a good deal.

i am using ubuntu 64 bit with both virtualbox and vmserver (bot are free), never really compare the speed.

vbox with virtualtool can let you seamless access to both host and guest system, but usb support is a bit complicated. (either give up guest or host usb function)

i like vmserver more since i can do more "hardware" configuration than vmplayer. i can also download and use the vm image from vmware.com right away without doing the installation and configuration by myself.

hope this helps.

But one is GPL'd so the one is not "Free" as in beer :)
