This is a cartoon created in Ubuntu Studio (7.04). I started fooling around with Synfig and while there were many small demos and squiggles of what it could do, I wanted to see if I could create a whole cartoon with it. While Synfig was used for the whole of this cartoon's creation (including compositing the scenes) other programs were used for other tasks and it became a way to demonstrate the creative power of other open source tools.

Right-click and save here for an Ogg version. (http://www.hoodyhoo.com/toons/syNfig01_final.ogg)

Programs used:
Synfig (http://www.synfig.com): animation
Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/): editing and creation of sound effects
Hydrogen (http://www.hydrogen-music.org/): background beats
Cinelerra (http://cv.cinelerra.org/): compositing video and audio and rendering
Avidemux (http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/): video conversion for YouTube
GnoTime Tracker (http://gttr.sourceforge.net/): for tracking how long I worked on this project. About 60 hours over a month.

Any feedback is encouraged! Hope you enjoy it!

Not bad. I never thought Ubuntu would be capable of that much. There's still a long way to go though.

Quite excellent! I am very impressed by the technology underlying Synfig and hope that others like yourself continue promoting its usage and evolution.

If you create a tutorial or behind-the-scenes weblog, I would be very interested in hearing about it.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful animation (and especially for providing an OGG version :) ).

Yes, that was rather cool. I'm certainly rather interested in the program now! :D
