I need help on interpreting the Iliad and the Odyssey in English. It's not that my native language isn't English or anything, and I'd like to think that I'm a good reader...It's just that some parts are hard for me to get. Anyone know of a good resource for getting help on them, or am I talking to the wrong crowd (no offense, I just know that the majority of people wouldn't touch Homer with a ten-foot pole)?

Please note, this is NOT assigned reading. I am reading this on my own.

On another note, please tell what you think of the Iliad and the Odyssey if you have read it. I myself think it's cool. It appeals to my darker side.

I have already tried Sparknotes. While they do a VERY good job on giving the basic flow of the story, they do not go into the kind of detail I am needing.

Not all translations are born equal. Which one are you reading? I might be able to recommend a better one.

I am using Richmond Lattimore's translation, which I was told was the best...Really, I don't think it is a problem of translation, but of the material itself.

Robert Fagles' translation is also very good.

Anyway, this site has a lot of resources that go into more detail than Sparknotes:

Be sure to check out the "etexts" section for the study guides.
